What Causes Premature Ejaculation?

by John Romano

Premature ejeculation does not have a standardized definition, not like a serious illness or bodily condition.  The term loosely refers to whenever a man climaxes before he wants to, or if perhaps others (such as a therapist or a lover) view his climax as premature.  Obviously, this is open to interpretation.

A selfish lover who climaxes quickly might not view his sexual preferences as a problem. However, for a couple who claims to have sexual problems, the cause of premature ejeculation may be very important.

What causes it?

First, understand that the average time for men to become aroused is between five and ten minutes.  However, if the issue is about pleasing your partner before finishing off, then time is really irrelevant.  The man has to work at controlling his desires so as to become a more competent lover.

The cause of premature ejeculation is usually over-excitement or over anxiety.  Obviously, if a younger man is approaching his first sexual experience, or perhaps doesn’t have much sexual experience beyond losing his virginity, then over-excitement would be the root cause.  A virginal man may react to sexual stimuli in an almost involuntary way.  In this case, practice makes perfect.

The joy should lie in discovering new sexual techniques, which cure it naturally.  A man shouldn’t worry about it until it becomes a serious relationship problem. Causes of quick ejaculation not related to inexperience could also result because of anxiety.  This anxiety could be from any number of concerns from problems at work to relationship miscommunications to even deep rooted psychological issues.

For example, if a man is worried that he is doing something “immoral” with his partner, or worries that he might get caught, he is usually not focusing on extending the love making session.  He is subconsciously trying to rush things so he can return to his normal comfort level.  Even the fear of not pleasing your partner or avoiding pregnancy can affect a man’s normal level of control.

A young man’s upbringing can often be the cause.

If he has become accustomed to masturbation over a period of years, then fast ejaculation (out of fear of getting caught) can become an almost unconscious, physically ingrained habit.

It’s important to understand that this problem is usually not caused by physical disorders.  Therefore, if you have a problem with this issue then don’t despair that it’s a lifetime ordeal that’s going to hinder your sex life forever!

Premature ejeculation is almost always a psychological issue, one that can be “cured” as you begin to uncover the issues that bother your subconscious.  (There are some instances in which multiple sclerosis, extreme penis sensitivity or nerve damage can cause this issue, but these are rare)

There are a variety of exercises you can do to get rid of this problem and finding the reason is usually the best place to start.  What causes premature ejeculation?  In the end, you do… and you are also capable of overcoming this problem.
